Elma Ruth Adams, 87, of Checotah, OK, went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2020. She was born Mar. 23, 1933 to parents, Fred and Elma Campbell on a Farm at Council Hill, OK.
As a young child, Ruth relocated with her parents and family to Arvin, CA where she attended school. As a teenager, she met the love of her life, Gene E. Adams, just out of the military. They were married in 1949 and married for fifty years until his death in 1999. They made a home in Bakersfield, CA and together had a son, Michael, in 1949 and a daughter, Jacci in 1955. She was a stay at home mother to her children which she loved dearly. She loved their family vacation home in Morro Bay, CA.
In 1977, Ruth and Gene retired and moved to Checotah, OK to live on their ranch and raise cattle. She loved gardening, cooking, canning and baking. Her pies were beyond match. Nothing made her happier than loving her family and gatherings at the ranch around the table. Her labor of love was her beautiful peony flower beds.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy and she loved them deeply. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Checotah, OK. She sang in the choir, volunteered and worshiped the Lord. Always witnessing and would fill in teaching Sunday School Class for her dearest best friend, Doretta Wilson.
Ruth is survived by her son Michael and Dena Adams of Keefeton, OK, Jacci and Duane Lancater of Horn Lake, MS, grandson, Aaron Adams, granddaughter, Ashley and Ricky Davenport of Olive Branch, MS, great grandchildren, Hunter and Savannah Davenport of Olive Branch, MS, sisters, Ellen Barry of Oktaha, OK, Judy Daley of Orlando, FL and Shirley Nichols of Yuma AZ.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2020 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Checotah.
